Moscow Exchange closing auction prices to be used in MSCI index calculations

Moscow Exchange is pleased to announce that MSCI, the global index provider, will use MOEX's closing auction prices for listed Russian securities to calculate end-of-day values of its indices. The new methodology will come into effect from 30 October 2017.
MSCI"s decision to use MOEX"s prices is a mark of international recognition for Russia"s market infrastructure and its ability to deliver fair market prices for shares. It will stimulate greater liquidity both during the closing auction and in continuous trading sessions.
Moscow Exchange introduced its closing auction in September 2013 to increase market liquidity as part of the Exchange's programme to bring Russia"s market infrastructure in line with global best practice. The MOEX indices have been calculated based on closing auction prices since spring 2014. FTSE, the UK-based index provider, also uses MOEX's closing auction prices of listed Russian stocks for its indices.
In the first eight months of 2017, the closing auction trading volume in shares increased by 42% YoY to RUB 129 billion.
